SUMMARY:Holy Cow!: How Do Hindus\, Muslims\, Jains and Buddhists Eat?
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, January 13\, 2019 3:50pm\n\nAddison-Penzak Jewish Community Center\n14855 Oka Rd.\, Los Gatos\, CA 95032\n(Off Lark Avenue\, near Highway 17S) \nSiVIC’s January Interreligious Leaders Forum will be a part of the annual Jewbilee event at the Jewish Community Center. \nJewbilee 2019 – A Day of Jewish Learning\nSunday\, January 13 @1:00pm – 6:30pm (for the entire Jewbilee)\nTheme this year is “Food for Thought”\, and SiVIC is sponsoring a presentation at 3:50pm titled\n“Holy Cow!  How do Hindus\, Muslims\, Jains and Buddhists Eat?”\nOur presenters are Mihir Meghani (Hinduism)\, Raania Mohsen (Islam)\, Girish Shah (Jainism) and Abbot Jianhu Shifu (Buddhism)\, moderated by Diane Fisher (Judaism) \nYou probably know that Hindus traditionally don’t eat beef and Muslims don’t eat pork\, but this panel of Hindu\, Muslim\, Jain and Buddhist practitioners will discuss much more about food and their faith. Food binds a community\, and fortifies a community. It also paradoxically sets people of different faiths apart. Come learn and ask those questions you’ve always had about food and other faiths. \nTickets for the full day of teachers\, artists\, educators\, speakers and performers.\nSiVIC participants may obtain complimentary passes for just our session from diane@jvalley.org \n

SUMMARY:Bells of Peace Initiative
DESCRIPTION:… in November we will recall that day of November 11\, 1918\, at 11 a.m. when the guns went silent\, and the bells rang out around the world announcing the peace. \nTo the Silicon Valley Interreligious Council– \nAs one of the Co-Directors of the California World War One Centennial Task Force (resolved by the legislature of the State of California\,) and an acknowledged representative to the state of California from the U.S. World War One Centennial Commission established by Congress in 2013\,  I respectfully offer this introduction and invitation to your office. \nAs you may now realize the United States is currently part of the worldwide commemorations of the war’s one-hundredth anniversary\, and in November we will recall that day of November 11\, 1918\, at 11 a.m. when the guns went silent\, and the bells rang out around the world announcing the peace. \nIt is my privilege\, in following through with the motto of the California World War One Centennial Task Force of honoring\, commemorating\, and educating\, to ask you to include all of your members to join us in re-enacting the ringing of the bells on that remarkable day. \nThe “Bells of Peace” program of a Nationwide Bell-Tolling on November 11\, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. will honor the 116\,516 American men & women who died in WWI\, and the thousands of others who served. Our hope is to remind our citizens of the price paid for our freedoms and the peace of the world.  We hope the appreciation of that sacrifice is not forgotten. \nMy colleagues and I at the Centennial Task Force hope that we can count on your support of this historic event in light of the support our forefathers gave to the effort one hundred years ago. \nFor even more information please visit the Bells of Peace webpage at: https://www.worldwar1centennial.org/commemorate/event-map-system/bells-of-peace-a-world-war-i-remembrance.html \, and take a look at our state website at WW1CC.org/California   We are also in the process of trying to get the Governor to issue a Proclamation calling on all groups with Bells to ring them throughout the state on November 11th. \nI look forward to hearing from your office soon as preparations do need to be made as soon as possible. Feel free to contact me at my personal cell number which is (323)868-7574 \nSincerely\, \nCourtland Jindra
