SUMMARY:American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley Faith Leader Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley (ALFSV)\, People Acting in Community Together (PACT)\, Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC)\, Silicon Valley Interfaith Council (SiVIC)\, and Islamic Network Group (ING) are coming together to bring to you an opportunity to hear from leading civil rights activist Eric Ward. Eric Ward is a national expert on the relationship between hate violence and preserving democratic institutions\, governance\, and inclusive societies and he brings nearly 30 years of expertise in community organizing and philanthropy. Along with Eric’s presentation and fireside chat session\, participants will have the opportunity to be in dialogue with each other as they consider how to bring this work to their faith community.\n\nWho Should Attend?\nThe hope of this event is to engage clergy and lay leaders in a space of authentic dialogue and deep inspiration regarding the values of theological equity and justice. As the event will focus on empowering faith leaders and their ability to engage their congregations on race equity\, those lay leaders who choose to participate should be in a principal or mentor role within their faith communities.Outcomes\n– To better understand the role of faith leaders in regards to race equity in our community and how faith leaders can engage their congregations in this dialogue.\n– To consider the critical role clergy and faith communities play during this election cycle and the risks that white nationalism poses to our democracy.\n– To provide a space that engages new clergy and re-energize senior clergy.\n\n  \nRSVP at alfsv.org/mar31

SUMMARY:"Why Coronavirus is Humanity's Wake Up Call" -- an article from Charter for Compassion
DESCRIPTION:David Korten has long been a mentor to the Charter for Compassion.  His insights on economics\, climate and social trends are often both challenging and healing.  David is the founder of Yes! magazine and a number of books\, one of which\, Change the Story\, Change the Future has been of particular interest to the Charter for Compassion.  Here are a few lines from “Why Coronavirus is Humanity’s Wake Up Call\,” and a link to the complete article. \n\n“The rapid spread of novel coronavirus has prompted government\, business\, and civil society to take dramatic action–canceling events large and small\, restricting travel\, and shutting down major segments of the economy on which nearly all of us depend. It is a demonstration of our ability\, when the imperative is clear\, for deep and rapid global cooperation and change at a previously unimaginable speed and scale. There is an obvious desire to protect ourselves and our loved ones. But we are also seeing something more as communities mobilize to address the crisis–a sense of mutual responsibility\, born of a recognition that we are ultimately bound to a common fate.”

Many people begin writing poetry as part of a healing process. By writing about what has injured our spirit in the past and about how we feel about ourselves presently\, we can diminish suffering and begin to rediscover joy. This course will explore how writing poetry can inspire not only us\, but others\, how it can increase well-being\, and how it can be used to teach tolerance\, understanding\, and compassion\, including compassion for the earth and all living things. Click here to learn more about the course and register. \nGlobal Read: Teaching for Purpose\nApril 7; 7:00am PT\nIn Teaching for Purpose\, Heather Malin explores the idea of purpose as the purpose of education and shows how educators can prepare youth to live intentional\, fulfilling lives. The book highlights the important role that purpose—defined as “a future-directed goal that is personally meaningful and aimed at contributing to something larger than the self”—plays in optimal youth development and in motivating students to promote the cognitive and noncognitive skills that teachers want to instill. Based on a decade of research conducted at the Stanford University Center on Adolescence and infused with the engaging voices of purposeful youth\, Teaching for Purpose offers a fresh\, inspirational guide for educators who are looking for new ways to support students to succeed not only in school\, but in life. Register for this webinar.

SUMMARY:03/26\, 03/31 Spirituality in a Time of Crisis -- FB Live Interfaith Panel Series
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 has affected all of us in ways that we would not have imagined just a few months ago. As we all work to cope with this challenge\, we are offering a three-part series titled Spirituality in a Time of Crisis. This interfaith series\, featuring female religious leaders as panelists in recognition of Women’s History Month\, will discuss how to take a step back\, reflect\, and understand not only our current situation and the world outside but also ourselves and those we love. Join us in reflection on March 24th\, March 26th\, and March 31st on the ING Facebook page. To receive updates on the series\, register below! \nThursday\, March 26th 7:30 – 8:30 PM PST: Building and Inspiring Fellowship and Community in a Time of Crisis\nIn times of crisis\, news reports are full of stories about neighbors and strangers going out of their way to share food\, rescue pets\, locate loved ones\, and help rebuild what has been lost. In our second panel\, we seek to understand how religious traditions contribute to the displays of compassion\, altruism\, and creative solution-seeking that blossom when disaster strikes communities. \nSpeakers: ING Executive Director Maha Elgenaidi (Muslim)\, Rabbi Amy Eilberg (Jewish)\, Lakshmi Subramanian (Hindu)\, Reverend George Anne McDonnell (Christian)\, and Venerable Tenzin Chogkyi (Buddhist). Facilitator: ING Bay Area Director Ishaq Pathan. \nTuesday\, March 31st 5:00-6:00 PM PST: Reflecting on Gratitude and Faith in a Time of Crisis\nReligious traditions can teach us a lot about the importance of gratitude as a foundation of our life\, even—or perhaps especially—in times of crisis. By funneling our emotions into positive action\, we grow our empathy with others. In our third and final installment of this series\, we learn helpful techniques that allow us to slow down and recognize and give thanks for all the blessings in our lives. \nSpeakers: ING Content Manager Ameena Jandali (Muslim)\, Rabbi Melanie Aron (Jewish)\, Sheila Mohan (Hindu)\, Dianne Muller (Christian)\, and Venerable Tenzin Chogkyi (Buddhist). SUMMARY:10th Anniversary World Interfaith Harmony Week\, Feb. 1-7
DESCRIPTION:The 10th Anniversary of the United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week starts on February 1\, 2020 and continues until February 7th. \nBuilding Bridges Across Boundaries\nWorld Interfaith Harmony Week is an annual event observed during the first week of February. \nWorld Interfaith Harmony Week was proclaimed by the General Assembly in resolution A/RES/65/5 adopted on 20 October 2010. In the resolution\, the General Assembly\, points out that mutual understanding and interreligious dialogue constitute important dimensions of a culture of peace and establishes World Interfaith Harmony Week as a way to promote harmony between all people regardless of their faith. \nRecognizing the imperative need for dialogue among different faiths and religions to enhance mutual understanding\, harmony and cooperation among people\, the General Assembly encourages all States to spread the message of interfaith harmony and goodwill in the world’s churches\, mosques\, synagogues\, temples and other places of worship during that week\, on a voluntary basis and according to their own religious traditions or convictions. \nFor more information\, click here
