SUMMARY:Reimagining public safety\, transforming community\, and sustaining peace
DESCRIPTION:Euphrates Visionaries are individuals striving to make the impossible possible and the idealistic realistic. Our 2020 Visionary Aqeela Sherrills possesses an indomitable spirit which moves him to transform the hearts\, minds\, and actions of those around him. We can’t wait for you to get to know him! \nAqeela asks\, “what is happening that is preventing us from experiencing joy?” To live in peaceful community\, the safety\, dignity\, and joy of every member of our communities must be valued\, cherished\, and appreciated. Communities around the world instead often experience limited\, biased\, and violent public safety strategies that regularly exacerbate rather than reduce harm and trauma. Aqeela steadfastly explains there is a point of entry for the public to play a key role in public safety. Current systems of law enforcement cannot be the single point of contact. We need to reimagine public safety to not only reduce violence but also to create a true presence of safety. As Aqeela fervently demonstrates\, we need to build compassion and understanding into our systems. Dive into the complexities with us\, and learn how you can contribute to the collective work of reimagining public safety for peaceful\, joyful communities. \nWe will open the call with Rev. angel Kyodo Williams\, activist\, author\, and ordained Zen priest. We will then move into a conversation between Euphrates Founder\, Janessa Wilder\, and our 2020 Visionary of the Year\, Aqeela Sherrills. And finally\, Aqeela will take time to respond to the questions\, you\, our community have. \nYou must register to attend this call. Please click here to register and receive the Zoom link. After registering\, you will receive an email providing you with call details. \nWe look forward to sharing space with you on December 11th!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to register for the December 11 call!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to invest in our Visionary of the Year program!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Dialogue with Eric Ward & Silicon Valley Faith Leaders - Online event
DESCRIPTION:American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley (ALFSV)\, People Acting in Community Together (PACT)\, Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC)\, Silicon Valley Interfaith Council (SiVIC)\, and Islamic Network Group (ING) are coming together to bring to you an opportunity to hear from leading civil rights activist Eric Ward. Eric Ward is a national expert on the relationship between hate violence and preserving democratic institutions\, governance\, and inclusive societies and he brings nearly 30 years of expertise in community organizing and philanthropy. Along with Eric’s presentation and fireside chat session\, participants will have the opportunity to be in dialogue with each other as they consider how to bring this work to their faith community.\n\nWho Should Attend?\nThe hope of this event is to engage clergy and lay leaders in a space of authentic dialogue and deep inspiration regarding the values of theological equity and justice. As the event will focus on empowering faith leaders and their ability to engage their congregations on race equity\, those lay leaders who choose to participate should be in a principal or mentor role within their faith communities.\nOutcomes\n– To better understand the role of faith leaders in regards to race equity in our community and how faith leaders can engage their congregations in this dialogue.\n– To consider the critical role clergy and faith communities play during this election cycle and the risks that white nationalism poses to our democracy.\n– To provide a space that engages new clergy and re-energize senior clergy.\n\n  \nREGISTRATION REQUIRED: CLICK HERE and then click on “Register” button.

SUMMARY:Webinar - Using Non-Violence to Fight Oppression
DESCRIPTION:What started as pockets of unrest and challenge to the status quo is now a far-reaching movement across the United States to put a permanent end to oppression and injustice. \nJoin Supervisor Dave Cortese\, Assembly member Ash Kalra and the Hindu American Foundation for a webinar on how to use non-violence to fight oppression\, drawing on the lessons of Mahatma Gandhi and other champions of civil rights. \nSamir Kalra\, Managing Director of the Hindu American Foundation\, will share how the Hindu American Foundation incorporates the Gandhian concept of Ahimsa (non-violence) as a guiding principle in the work they conduct. SUMMARY:Forum Series on Racism - Open Wide Your Hearts - By Santa Teresa Church
DESCRIPTION:Observing the unprecedented level of protests demanding racial equality\, in the wake of the murder of George Floyd\, Santa Teresa Church is calling all Catholic Christians and especially\, our parishioners\, to educate ourselves about racism. \nOur parish will be offering an program via Zoom\, based on the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops’ Document – “Open Wide Your Hearts” addressing racism and the need to eliminate it. Each session will be about 90-minutes and offer opportunities to learn\, ask questions\, share experiences\, pray\, sing\, hear scripture\, and reflect. \nRacism is not easy for most of us to talk about\, know what to say about it and\, to be truthful\, even want to talk about it at all. We aim to make this series a safe place to explore our thoughts\, attitudes\, and emotions and faith beliefs about this touchy subject. We urge you to seriously consider joining us as we begin this faith journey. \nThese two sessions on September 23 and September 30 at 6:45PM are part of a series but can still help us open our hearts. \nJoin Zoom Meeting \nZoom Meeting ID: 828 3612 1256\nPasscode: 479199

SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:A MIGHTY FORCE FOR JOY  Global Celebration of Compassion \nAUGUST 14-15; 5:00 pm – 5:00 pm Pacific Time \nWe hunger for peace and we need to hear good news.  On August 14-15\, the Charter for Compassion webithon will be offering both.  We will delve into a little history to reflect on the road we have traveled.  There will be stories\, poems\, songs and presentations from partner organizations\, individuals who have supported the Charter as artists and musicians and certainly from the frontlines of our compassionate community and city initiatives.  There is a lot of positive energy that is being shared in the world and our 24-hour webithon is just a preview of what is happening near and far.  We want to offer you moments of reflection\, joy and perhaps a nudge to get involved locally to spread compassionate action locally so its threads can spread globally. \nOf course\, we want to make the webithon free for all\, but we also want to entice you to contribute to keeping the work of the Charter for Compassion on-going.  We will be asking for donations throughout the 24-hours\, but only through placards that will appear on your screen to remain you about the possibility of contributing.  There will be a chat box on Facebook going through the 24-hours.  Let us hear from you.  Please tell your friends\, colleagues\, organizations to which you are close to share the link. Most of the spots you will see are pre-recorded since we don’t have the vast capability to technically host live presentations\, but we assure you that will not diminish the power of the moment.  Looking forward to your presence on August 14-15 and your support.  Register now. \n
