DESCRIPTION:The Los Gatos annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service this year will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Rose Avenue in Los Gatos. DESCRIPTION:Please join the interfaith community of San Jose in giving thanks on Tuesday\, November 24th at 7:00 pm at Stone Church of Willow Glen (Presbyterian Church(USA).  Participating faith communities at this joint Thanksgiving worship service include: The Center for Spiritual Enlightenment\, Stone Church of Willow Glen\, Temple Emanu-El\, San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin\, St. Martin of Tours Parish\, Sathya Sai Baba Center\, and The Church of Latter Day Saints. \nAttendees are encouraged to bring a can of food to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank. Pie and refreshments will be served following the service.  Sorry\, no childcare will be provided\, but children of all ages are welcome. SUMMARY:Ramadan Open House
DESCRIPTION:Ramadan is the name of the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar. During the blessed month of Ramadan\, Muslims all over the world abstain from food\, drink\, and other physical needs during the daylight hours. Ramadan is a special month for Muslims because the Quran was revealed during this month.  For Muslims\, Ramadan is a time to practice self-restraint; a time to cleanse the body and soul from impurities and re-focus one’s self on the worship of God. \nMosques around the country hold an Open House during this month and invite neighbors\, friends\, co-workers and local officials. The open house is typically centered around sunset when the fast is broken. At an open house\, guests join their fellow Muslim citizens to get a brief overview of Ramadan and its importance to Muslims\, followed by a breaking of the fast. The fast is typically broken by eating a date and drinking some water or juice. Guests can observe the Muslims offering their sunset prayer in congregation\, followed by a sumptuous dinner and conversation with their hosts. \nPlease RSVP to OpenHouse@wvmuslim.org.

SUMMARY:Moving Forward In Reconciliation and Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The Rev. Peter Williams Cassey was the first person of color ordained in the Episcopal Church West of the Mississippi River at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in 1866. Peter arrived in San Francisco in 1863\, and became a leader in the Underground Railroad and community organizer of blacks throughout the state. He and his wife\, Anna Besant Cassey\, founded St. Philip’s Mission\, the first black church in San Jose\, and St. Philip’s Academy and the Phoenixonian Institute\, the first secondary school for children of color in California in 1862.   Resolutions have been adopted in the Episcopal dioceses of El Camino Real\, California\, Los Angeles and Florida to commend Peter and Anna into the calendar of saints with hopeful adoption by the whole Episcopal Church at its General Convention this coming July. \nSunday morning\, April 19\, will feature a Eucharistic Service of Worship at 10:30 am commemorating Rev. Peter and Anna Besant Cassey at Trinity Cathedral\, 81 North 2nd Street\, San Jose. Preacher for the service will be the Rev. Canon Jamesetta Hammons of the Diocese of Los Angeles\, Secretary/Treasurer of the Belfield Hannibal Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians. At 2:00 pm\, there will be a graveside commemoration at the graves of Anna Besant Cassey and Henrietta Lockwood in Oak Hill Memorial Park\, 300 Curtner Avenue at Monterey Highway\, San Jose. \nAll are cordially invited; all beliefs or disbeliefs are embraced
