SUMMARY:Muslim/Jewish Halaqa-Seder: A Celebration of the Exodus Story
DESCRIPTION:Join us for dramatic reenactments of scenes from the Exodus Story from Muslim and Jewish scriptures followed by engaging interfaith table conversations and a halal/kosher dinner among Muslim and Jewish members of South Bay communities. Last year’s event was sold out. \nRegister online at ing.org/events/muslim-jewish-halaqa-seder-a-celebration-of-the-exodus-story/ \nAt last year’s event\, a group of Muslims and Jews gathered in Palo Alto on Sunday\, March 29th\, 2015\, for a one-of-a-kind Seder and Halaqa that looked at scenes from the Exodus story from the perspectives of Muslims and Jews. Following each scene\, attendees participated in fruitful interfaith discussions of the different narratives at their tables. The discussions were so engrossing that people had a hard time ending their conversations\, which continued through the halal/kosher dinner. The event concluded with an open mic session where participants voiced their appreciation for the event and their desire to learn more about each other’s tradition. For more information and photos from the event\, go here.

SUMMARY:Ramadan Open House
DESCRIPTION:Ramadan is the name of the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar. During the blessed month of Ramadan\, Muslims all over the world abstain from food\, drink\, and other physical needs during the daylight hours. Ramadan is a special month for Muslims because the Quran was revealed during this month.  For Muslims\, Ramadan is a time to practice self-restraint; a time to cleanse the body and soul from impurities and re-focus one’s self on the worship of God. \nMosques around the country hold an Open House during this month and invite neighbors\, friends\, co-workers and local officials. The open house is typically centered around sunset when the fast is broken. At an open house\, guests join their fellow Muslim citizens to get a brief overview of Ramadan and its importance to Muslims\, followed by a breaking of the fast. The fast is typically broken by eating a date and drinking some water or juice. Guests can observe the Muslims offering their sunset prayer in congregation\, followed by a sumptuous dinner and conversation with their hosts. \nPlease RSVP to OpenHouse@wvmuslim.org.
